Campus Wind Turbine
January 9, 2012The campus wind turbine was back online over three weeks ago on Friday December 16th, after almost two weeks down. It was a faulty electrical switch, in the end, that caused the outage. It was an unusual failure. It is almost as unusual for the wind turbine to be out of action for any length of time; we were pleased that it was spinning again for Christmas.
The campus wind turbine was installed in 2005 and provides approximately a third of the institute’s electricity. It has already paid for itself in offset grid power.
The machine is managed by Raymond Byrne.
The turbine also provides us with a research and training platform. Contact Raymond Byrne for more information.

We’ve a lot more to add: we haven’t said all that much about our facilities, capabilities, committee work or industrial projects yet. It’ll grow. Stay in touch.
